Well this is the time of year when my university alumni magazines start coming through the letterbox. I've received one already, and should expect another two soon. :)
I always get a bit nostalgic... didn't realise it at the time, but I think they really are the best days of your life. Apart from the exams, that is.
How was your school / uni days?
I hated school and lasted less than 4 months at college.

The first few months are often the most difficult :(
But at least you went on to bigger and better things :)

I have mixed feelings about it really. I didn't like school much because I was a bit shy and you're forced to be with all those people all day whether you want to be or not. Also, the teachers seemed to be obsessed with making quiet people more talkative. On the other hand, it was nice to be a teenager and misbehave by sneaking down the pub at lunchtime. :D
I liked doing exams, I was quite good at them, so that was the best bit for me. :p
On the last day of school a lot of the girls cried but I was quite glad to be moving on. I do like reminiscing with friends about the things we got up to though.

I wasn't too keen on school because it was too restrictive. You couldn't leave or go anywhere without permission. However no school uniform, we could wear what we like smart-casual, but no denims. University was great though.
I got another alumnus magazine this morning. They got my address wrong for some reason but luckily the local postie obviously knew it was for me.

Oh yeah. these are the alumni magazines that I normally receive :
Aberdeen uni
Manchester uni
St Andrews uni
Strathclyde uni
Dundee uni also sent me their alumnus magazine a few years ago, for some reason
I keep them all. They take up quite a bit of space on the bookshelf.

I'm really glad we had a uniform. It was fairly hideous but at least I didn't have to think about what to wear every day - it would have become like a fashion show cos some of the girls there were really trendy. It was bad enough trying to wear trendy shoes without being told off!

My argumentative essay for English was on school unforms. :D
I argued for. :o But only because it was easier to make the case!

It's much easier - I used to dread day trips at school because I just knew that other girls would be wearing trendier clothes than me! :D

I used to dread trips because I knew I would have to write about them the next day – that ended up being my job for a while.
I liked School even though it was pretty strict.
I went to Girls only Grammer school, and we had to wear ties and blazers. We even had to have permission to take blazers off for the first year!
I loved being there and stayed all through 6th form. :)

I would have liked a uniform with a tie and blazer, and also a hat. All the other schools in the area had them. We had a hideous flowery blouse instead. We did have official knickers though - nobody admitted to wearing them though cos they were huge! :D

They only abolished hats about 3 years before i started:D We had to wear large navy knickers and if we didnt have them on when changing for PE we would get detention
The school I went to is one of the last all girls grammer schools and was in the top 10 schools in the country at one time so standards were really high

It sounds great - schools should be strict IMO. :D
Ours was quite strict too. Most of the teachers wore gowns, and getting sent to the headmaster's office was something to be feared. Later on it went comprehensive and much less strict.

A lot of teachers wore gowns when I was a school and when I was first at the school the prefects had short gowns. That had stopped by the time I was a prefect – all sixth formers were prefects, I wasn’t anything special.

I have both my student gown and graduation gown stuck away in a wardrobe somewhere. I bought them instead of hired them - god knows why as I only went to my first graduation, and didn't bother again as I found it boring and self-conscious.
Well, had to buy the red student gown as it was pretty much compulsory at St Andrews. You had to wear it at formal hall dinners and other occasions, as well as to attend debates or take part in the Pier Walk.
I don't know if I should ebay it. :D

Did you find that on your very last day, it feels like the teachers see you in a different light and treat you like an adult?

I don't think I spoke to them on the last day - can't remember now - I was probably too busy running the other way. :D
I still see the headmaster sometimes though and I always feel I should stand to attention even now. :o

I had detention every lunchtime for 4 years, My Head of year used to leave the class to have lunch and a fag and I knew he would not be back for nearly an hour so I used to walk out and play footy and walk back in 5 minutes before I knew he would return. Thing was I hated school I knew what I wanted to do and School lessons would not teach me that so I never bothered to try.

After I left school I still bumped into some of my teachers. I even bumped into my primary 3 teacher several years after she had retired. She had gone on a world cruise which was something she said she always wanted to do before she dies. She's probably dead now, or at least, very elderly :(

I did. It’s the OU one.
I didn’t bother getting one for Heriot-Watt, I knew I wouldn’t go to the ceremony after already avoiding two others.

Quite touching in the BB highlights show tonight. Dale was http://img111.imageshack.us/img111/9039/cryvi0.gif because he couldn't handle the thought of being hated by the public. He said he was hated at school because of "how he was and how he looked". Not sure what he meant by that, but it's not nice to be bullied at school... it happens a lot though :(

I think the Borders/Dumfries and Galloway is one the nicest parts to live.
I lived in Dumfries for a year and it's probably the nicest town i've lived. Apart from the savage seagulls. And it's a short hop away from Carlisle or Glasgow.
