It is getting boring here. It's everyone's fault but mine. :p

Sorry but this forum is too bland for me now. I just tried to start a serious thread but it went silly straight away. I've been hounded off one forum, and another one I'm on is mostly about Big Brother now, which I don't watch, so it'll have to be the Mirror forum where the discussion is lively at least.
See you all around. It it livens up here I'll be back! :D

I haven't flounced by the way, it's just too quiet for me here. I've always been fond of this forum, even when it was a nightmare! I like the admin and the other members here, but I like to discuss issues in the news and nobody else wants to do that really.
It's so difficult to find one forum which is ideal. One of the others I'm a member of has biased admin and it's just hopeless there for me - they just can't see it though, and we'll never agree on that.
Another is fine now but concentrates a lot on things like Big Brother or commenting on Digital Spy, which I don't read much these days.
The Mirror has its share of arguments and locked threads, but it is busy and one can discuss politics and other stuff on there with loads of people. The mods are OK too - they're not biased.

I don’t mind discussing issues in the News, Fenella.
One piece of good new this morning was the rejection of the badger cull. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7489000.stm)
And the most horrific news was that the two French students were murdered by robbers. (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/textbased/news/article-1031350/Murdered-robbers-Genius-French-students-mobile-phones-stolen-London-flat.html)

I can’t get used to the quoting on The Mirror.
We’re discussing other forums again. :o
I could scour the net and start new threads by cutting and pasting right, left and centre, but does that achieve anything. I find it tedious when I see what looks like an interesting thread and find it is just a link to a newspaper site.
Any suggestions about how I could improve the forum will be gratefully received. :)

Gemo, why can't we discuss other forums? I haven't really named them, and people on one forum are normally on other forums too so it's natural to compare them. Forums don't exist in a vacuum, most of them are interlinked in some way. I find the differences between forums quite interesting, and the whims and foibles of the admin on them are even more interesting.

A forum is only as good as it's members. The only way to liven things up is for the members to persevere.
Perhaps there could be a "Mass Debating" ;) section for on-topic discussion?

On the old forum there was a section for more serious discussion but it was never that popular, and it used to get trolled a lot by certain people who had an axe to grind. I've never found SBS very good for discussion, it's always been a bit of a chatter place. That's fine if you have enough members to do that, but it doesn't. It also means it becomes a bit bland because there's nothing to really discuss.

Personally, I think that's my fault. I think I might stop posting on the site - as it's usually me that end up taking things off topic.
Do you think, for the sake of livening up the forum, I stop posting?

Nah, you start some good threads actually. Discussion doesn't have to be serious, it can be frivolous, it's just that it all ends up here as a series of random comments rather than on one topic.
You know I have a thing about people going off topic anyway. :D
You'll be pleased to know I have quit as a Starbucks customer. I now use Costa - the staff are sexier - and they don't talk to me.

Why don't you start a thread on your experiences in Costa? Your stories about things you overheard in Starbucks were funny. :D

The danger of discussing other forums is that it can end up in slanging matches.
So far it hasn’t, but I think there is a danger of it if we start discussing the whims and foibles of their admin.

The Costa Chronicles does have a certain ring to it, doesn't it?
I've not really overheard all that much. But I did put something in the toilet bin yesterday - and there was a pregnancy testing kit in there.
It also doesn't smell in Costa - and they've got FREE wireless.

No it hasn't because I've been speaking quite generally. I find forums in general to be quite an interesting topic and it won't end up in a slanging match if others don't come here to troll and argue.
There's a lady with a cute baby in Costa. It makes me want to have children.

Yes. I've got a mature outlook on life - but I'm extremely immature in other ways. :D
