View Full Version : I Hate Plastic Bags
So, I just got back from Waitrose. My God.
I walked there - so obviously walked back.
I was 5 minutes down the road from the supermarket with my bags in hand and BOTH - YES BOTH - the bags split. Nightmare, absolute nightmare.
Luckily, a nice couple walked past and gave me a bag. Damn nation!
I would have thought that Waitrose has strong expensive bags........................ Still, all that chocolate :p
It was bottles of water, soup and cider, actually :D No chocolate - too fat :D

Bag for life = 10 pence in most shops.
But you WILL leave it at home to collect dust on top of the microwave. It is a universal law.

Those bags are OK if you're deliberately going to the supermarket - if you remember to take them. They're no good for unexpected shopping trips though cos they don't fold up very small. I try to remember to put a carrier bag in my handbag whenever I go out so I don't end up chucking loads of them away.

I’ve got bags for live which live in the car. When I shop locally I use plastic bags and I double bag heavy things.

I don't understand why supermarkets have started charging for them now. I recycle all of mine, so the impact on the environment is less anyway. So basically I am just paying more money to fill up my recycling bag.

And the fact that landfill sites are basically huge plastic bags (which the entire filling comprises of less than 0.002% of plastic anyway)

I suppose it's an incentive to get people to re-use the bags. If you have to pay you're more likely to take your own, in theory anyway. Most people probably don't bother to recycle - they just chuck the excess bags in the bin.

We usually use the excess bags to put rubbish in.

Don't you have black bin bags like everyone else? You can't get much in a carrier bag. :p
Besides, round our way we recycle loads of stuff and you don't need carrier bags for that.

Don't you have wheelie bins? We put stuff in the small bags then chuck it in the big bin.

Yes we do but it's in the garage. I'm not going out there all the time to put a carrier bag in it. We have a large bin in the kitchen with black bin bags.

That's happened to me too. There's nothing more embarrassing than seeing your groceries roll down the street. :o

Morrisons are giving away something like 10000 of the bag for life type ones as they are trying to stop using the normal plastic ones.
Some places have even stopped giving them out! Asda i think i read.
